Club Fitting Near Clermont: Fix the Clubs or Fix the Swing First?

You've got a miss. You know the one. Maybe it's the high, weak fade off the tee. Maybe it's the iron that comes off the face low and dies short of the green no matter how good the swing felt.

And somewhere around the third round in a row of that, the question shows up. Is it me, or is it the clubs?

Honestly? Most Clermont golfers we talk to have been asking that for a while. They just haven't had a good way to answer it. So let's give you one.

Athletic Motion Golf Club is an indoor golf club in Winter Garden, just east of you. It's home of Athletic Motion Golf. And inside the same building, True Spec Golf - Orlando West runs club fittings. Their fitter. Their booking. Our bays.

That setup matters for one reason. You can answer "clubs or swing?" under one roof instead of guessing. If you already know you want a fitting, start on the AMGC club fitting page.

Why the guess gets expensive

Here's how it usually goes. You read a review. You watch a video. You buy the driver everybody's raving about, or the shaft some chart said matched your swing speed. It's great for a week. Then the old miss comes back.

That's not a character flaw. It's just that a club can't fix a swing problem, and a lesson can't fix a club that's wrong for you. When you guess, you're betting on one and hoping it was the other.

So don't guess. Measure it.

The honest way to decide

Ask yourself a few things. Be real about the answers.

Lean toward a fitting first if:

  • Your clubs are old, hand-me-downs, or came off a rack without anyone watching you hit them.

  • You make a decent swing and the ball still does something weird. Too high, too low, too much spin.

  • Your gaps are a mess. Two irons fly the same distance, or there's a huge hole between your wedges.

  • You're about to buy new clubs anyway. Get fit before you spend, not after.

Lean toward a lesson first if:

  • Your miss changes all the time. Left one day, right the next.

  • You've already been fit, and the problem stuck around.

  • You've changed equipment more than once and nothing changed.

  • You honestly don't know what your swing is doing. You just know it isn't working.

Plenty of golfers land in the middle. That's fine. You can do both, and the order is the only real decision. If you're torn, a lot of people start with a lesson so the swing settles, then get fit to the swing they're actually going to keep. Either way, you're not guessing anymore.

What a True Spec fitting looks like here

The fitting is True Spec's. We're the club around it. So here's what we can tell you without speaking for them.

You hit indoors. There's no wind, no sun in your eyes, no wet ground skewing the strike. Just you, a hitting area, and a launch monitor reading every ball. True Spec's fitting is brand-agnostic, so the goal is finding what works for your swing, not pushing a logo.

From there, it's pretty simple:

  1. Book with True Spec. All AMGC club fittings book through True Spec. Start at /club-fitting or go through /book-here.

  2. Show up with your current bag. Your gamers are the baseline. You need to see what you're hitting now before anything changes.

  3. Hit, compare, repeat. The fitter swaps heads and shafts and watches the numbers. You'll feel some of it. The data shows the rest.

  4. Leave with real answers. What's working. What isn't. What a change would actually do for your ball flight.

Pricing and session times live with True Spec, not us. We don't post fitting prices because those bookings are theirs. Check with True Spec directly when you book.

What a lesson looks like (with Nick)

If you land on the swing side, lessons at AMGC book with Nick Duffy, our lead instructor here in Winter Garden.

A regular lesson runs on TrackMan plus video. TrackMan 4 is in all 8 of our bays, so the ball and club numbers are right there on the screen while you work. Slow-motion video catches what you can't feel, and you can send your swing to your phone to look at later.

Want to go deeper? GEARS 3D motion capture is available in lessons with Nick when you book it that way. It's the tool that shows how your body is actually moving through the swing. Not every lesson includes it, so ask Nick which one fits what you're working on.

You can see the options on the AMGC lessons page. Lessons are open to non-members too.

What you get either way

The room is the same whichever door you take. Eight private bays. TrackMan in every one. Titleist Pro V1 practice balls. A real club, not a party room with a screen on the wall.

That's the part people from Clermont tend to like. You come for one thing, and everything else you'd need is right there. Get fit on Tuesday, book a lesson with Nick the next week, then come back and practice on your own in a bay with the same numbers.

If you want to keep coming back, memberships include a private TrackMan bay and discounted lessons with an AMG Certified Instructor. Details are on the memberships page. No pressure though. Bay rental and lessons work without one.

The Clermont call, in plain words

So which is it for you?

If your swing's fairly steady and your gear is old or random, book the fitting. You'll learn more in one session than in a season of buying and returning clubs.

If your swing changes every week, start with Nick. A fitting on a swing that's still moving around is a snapshot of a target that won't sit still.

And if you've read all this and still can't decide? Call us at (850) 604-4653. Tell us your miss. We'll point you to the right door. No sales pitch.

FAQ

Do I need to be a member to get fit?

No. Fittings book through True Spec Golf - Orlando West, and you don't need an AMGC membership to book one.

Who actually does the fitting?

True Spec Golf - Orlando West. They're on site inside Athletic Motion Golf Club in Winter Garden. AMGC is the golf club around them. True Spec is the fitter.

How much does a fitting cost?

Pricing and times are set by True Spec, so check when you book through /club-fitting or /book-here. We don't post fitting prices on our site.

Should I bring my own clubs?

Yes. Your current clubs are the starting point. The fitter needs to see what you're hitting now to know what a change actually does.

Do I have to buy clubs after the fitting?

That's between you and True Spec. The point of a brand-agnostic fitting is getting real data so you can make the call. No one should be rushing you.

I'm left-handed. Can I come in?

Absolutely. Lefties and righties are both welcome, and every bay works for both.

Is GEARS part of the fitting?

No. GEARS 3D is a lesson tool here, and it books with Nick Duffy. The fitting is True Spec's own launch-monitor session.

Where are you, exactly?

Athletic Motion Golf Club, 1230 Winter Garden Vineland Rd, Suite 108, Winter Garden, FL 34787. We're right off Colonial Avenue. Phone (850) 604-4653.

Ready to stop guessing?

Pick your door. Fitting with True Spec at /club-fitting, or a lesson with Nick Duffy at /lessons. Either one beats another season of buying clubs and hoping.
